Evangelizing Today, Repenting
Today I was street evangelizing when a young woman and her friends thought I was nuts to think Jesus would accept repentance. The analogy was sleeping with the whole football team and then repenting and then the moving onto basketball team. In other words, how long does God tolerate backsliding? It depends on God and your attitude towards him , but God is way more patient then we are. What does Repent mean?
Hebrew (Nacham Naw-Kham)to be sorry, in Greek (Metanoeo Met-an-o-eh’-0)Think or feel differently
A. God gave Jezebel about 22* years to repent.
“And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.”
*Based on starting around (869–850 BC) and ending with her demise (849-842 BC)
B. God gave the people of the earth 120 years before the flood
“Then the LORD said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.’120 years Noah and Shem told the people about the flood
C. God gave 40 days warning to the people of Nineveh.
“And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.”
D. God gave Israel about 4 years to repent from nationwide sin.
1 Kings 18:1
“And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.”
E. Jesus says that we should forgive 490 times a day.
Matthew 18 21:22
“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
So the sooner you repent the better, be in awe of God, he is merciful to those who fear him, grace does exist to those how strive to find it. What if you think you can’t feel sorry? Repent anyway. Logically if you know it is a law and God almighty has consequences it’s simple pain avoidance, you must think of these things with eternity in mind and believe in Jesus Christ or in his miracles.
“Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.”
“Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we perish not?
